Wright was definitely quoting Malcolm X and says so in the sermon. Here's the direct quote from Wright's sermon: "What Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Muhammad was in fact true. America's chickens ... are coming home to roost." See for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxzWhaqFy7s
The audience starts clapping before he even finishes the sentence -- because they recognize the infamous quote by Malcolm X.
If Edward Beck said "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself", it would still be a quote from FDR, not Beck. Anyway, I think it's racist to argue, "it's okay because a white man said it too." And while we're quoting Malcolm, how about this: "The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative. The liberal is more hypocritical than the conservative. Both want power, but the white liberal is the one who has perfected the art of posing as the Negro's friend and benefactor; and by winning the friendship, allegiance, and support of the Negro, the white liberal is able to use the Negro as a pawn or tool in this political "football game" that is constantly raging between the white liberals and white conservatives."
That's from the famous 'God's Judgment on White America -- Chickens Come Home To Roost' speech. Malcolm X was extremely smart. But he didn't care about Kennedy's death because he did not identify as an American -- he was way out of the 'emotional maintream' of America.
