in response to reader comment: Did you happen to catch Glenn Beck last night?

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Nov 5, 2006 at 17:05

No, J.S. I really have to look for that Glenn Beck program. By the way, tell me something about the ACLU. I know I can find out about this group from Wikipedia, but I wanted a North American to give me his views. A lot of Arabs are entering the USA. Do you mean a lot of Muslims are entering the USA?

J.S., let me tell you how I feel about it. If millions of Europeans migrated to Muslim countries, the locals would be afraid of losing their religion and heritage. So, why shouldn't we Europeans (and Westerners) feel the same way? I respect Islam. Muslims have got a right to live according to their own rules in their own countries. Simlilarly, Europeans- and all Westerners- have got a right to preserve their unique cultures. Every nation is different. Italy is Catholic. Other nations are based on the Protestant tradition. All westerners are based on the Judeo-Christian tradition. That is what makes Europe (and the West) unique. I like Muslims countries, but I want to preserve the unique nature of my society.
