It makes all of the difference

Reader comment on item: The Pentagon Looks at the Koran
in response to reader comment: a pointless debate

Submitted by Henrik Ræder Clausen (Denmark), Oct 28, 2006 at 03:51

"What earthly difference does it make to debate whether the holy book in fact supports it?"

All of the difference in the world. Being justified by the Quran and the Hadith, Hamas, Hezbollah and their ilk recruit suicide bombers serially.

At the other end of the pipeline, contributions to Islamic 'relief organisations' have systematically been funneled to provide material support for Mujahedeen and terrorists worldwide, funded by the Saudi government as well as by individual contributions. Rachel Erhenfeld in her book "Funding Evil" did a great job at exposing this. Hardly a suprise that the Saudis tried hard to stop it.

When the 'martyr videos' (note the Quran-derived expression) takes inspiration from Islam in general and specific Quran verses in particular, there is every reason to listen. Breaking the motivation chain is the cheapest, least bloody, best way to stop terrorism. Breaking the funding chain is the second best option, and should naturally be pursued with great dilligence.
