Reader comment on item: The Pentagon Looks at the Koran

Submitted by DONVAN (United States), Oct 13, 2006 at 15:40

The evaluation of the koran is good but the examination of the history of the person of Mohammed would produce a more useful understanding of the pattern and practice of those who practice Mohammedism. While Mohammed is not technically a deity, he is the examplar and the tenants of the belief system derive from him. The treatment of women, the arbitary nature of his justice, the "forced collective" and the notion of permawar to expand his religion are all evident in his experiences and his reaction to them,. The koran simply is a compendium of verses and Mohammedian concepts, often incomplete and contradictory. We ,as non Mohammedians will never gleen the meanings and nuances that Mohammedians will from the koran. As if reading Mao's little red book will get you to a understanding of Marxism, perhaps, but only a filtered and obtuse perspective.
