Reader comment on item: [Mosque Mischief and] Counting Mosques

Submitted by Farzana Shahid (Canada), Feb 4, 2003 at 12:51

We as, moderate Muslims feel that it is in our interest for the FBI to pursue their agenda wholeheartedly. It will prove once and for all that mosques are not promoting or supporting terrorism unless of course there are some trumped up charges. The Mossad has been very active in this matter.

We know that Mr. Bush is hypocrytical when he says that " Islam is peace" but it is only because he is ignorant. Islam means surrender and submission to the Will of God, the same God that you and I worship. Indeed there are statements in the Qur'an that Jews and Christians do not like but they are contextual, not normative and there is no blanket permission to fight the "People of the book." There are numerous other verses in the Qur'an that exhort Muslims to forgive the people of the book even in the face of blatant injustices. Yes, it is a religion of peace and is inherently no more violent than your religion. What about Genesis 9 and Samuel !-18 whre King David is praised for slaughtering thousands of Philistines? Ezekiel and Isaiah are replete with condemnation for the ancient Isrealites and the Qur'an merely echoes some of those sentiments. It is about time you stopped bashing and singling out Islam.

The writer notes that Mossad has been monitoring mosques. Good thing too. Here is an update on my article of Feb. 4:

Police Say Find Explosives Belt in Mosque in Israel

Feb. 7, 2003 — JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli police said Friday they had found a suicide bomber's explosives belt hidden in a mosque in Israel, and said it was the first such discovery since the Palestinian uprising began more than two years ago.The army said the belt was discovered Thursday as a result of "precise intelligence information" from two members of the militant Palestinian group Islamic Jihad who were captured by Israeli forces in the West Bank. Packed with about 30 pounds of explosives, the belt had been placed in the washroom of a mosque in the Israeli Arab town of Taybeh near the West Bank, police spokeswoman Shira Lieberman said.
