Reader comment on item: Nation-building in Afghanistan, Iraq Was Never Going to Work

It must also be stressed that Germany, Italy and Japan were, in 1945, ethnically homogeneous states, unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, which contained many different ethnic and religious groups. Iraq being essentially a colonial creation.
