No one lay awake at night because Saudi women couldn't drive

Reader comment on item: Mahram Despotism vs. Saudi Women

Submitted by Anon. (Israel), Aug 2, 2019 at 15:19

Nobody cares about this stuff outside of Saudi Arabia.
And even though I'm generally in favor of Saudi Arabia placing fewer restrictions on its citizens, outlawing whatever may be described as 'gender discrimination' means more, new restrictions on the populace, rather than more freedom. Meanwhile, in Australia, a university only allows female students to enter a class in which students are given tutorials designed to help them learn material they struggle with! And there's a university which had a few openings (6, I think) for researchers or lecturers in physics and the university chose to only allow women to apply for these positions. Had it been the other way around, I am confident that the supreme court would have blocked it.
