Reader comment on item: No to Bombing Syria

Submitted by Reality Check (United States), Apr 8, 2017 at 13:22

Dr. Pipes,

Respectfully, this was just a shot across the bow as an opportunity to return the US to a powerful strategic position. The prior status quo was heading against our security.

When I was in a white bread middle school many years ago I was constantly taunted, chased and beaten by older, bigger, antisemetic kids. One day, cornered, I finally picked up a brick and maniacally clobbered the head of- in preemptive self defense- the leader and biggest of the instant gang. He fell bloody and went to hospital and the others ran away.

I believe you would have counseled better thought out options, but after that Nobody ever bothered me again.

Daniel Pipes replies:

You were lucky. Your opponents could have gotten together and done much more damage to you. The same applies here. Moscow has already sent better materiel to Syria.
