"A moderate Islam is a defeated Islam".

Very true. If by moderation you mean deviating from the basic principles of Islam and associating partners to Allah, it is indeed a defeated Islam. It's like proclaiming belief in discoveries of Isaac Newton and not believing in laws of gravity. Does that seem logical? It's as simple as that.
