Dear Dr Pipes,

I agree with you on this one. Mohammad, for the most part, reflected the mores of his time and places. We can probably grant that all his intentions were honest. But he made the fatal mistake of sealing his code in a unalterable capsule by claiming that he was the last prophet and his book was not only the last book but also the only correct book.

This little mistake freezes us into polygamy, cruel and unusual punishments, and into an endless obligation to defend something that may be wrong.
