Why should the gloating surprise anyone, absent any concrete military victory on part of Islamists against Israel (the initial stages of the 1973 war and Hezbollah entrenchment aside) they would grasp any straw ,however symbolic to proclaim hegemony over their enemy. The very crude propaganda poster is a typical example.

That said I still believe the apology was a net positive,apart from Dr Pipes reasons. My point was about against the apology is not the apology itself but the cluelessness of the Israeli establishment in believing that it would magically undo a decade of acrimony between Turkey and Israel.
