Underlying Problem

Reader comment on item: Obama vs Netanyahu, Round Three

Submitted by Zvi November (Jerusalem) (Israel), May 25, 2011 at 13:00

I have been in Israel since 1969. Essentially, the governing establishment here (Academia, media, supreme court, intellectual and most artists) have adapted a self-destructive attitude to our geo-political problems. They use the Arab lexicon and, to a large extent, agree with the Arab narrative.

Anyone, like me, who declares that Jordan is Palestine is immediately excommunicated. While you can see and hear a masked Hamas spokesman on Israeli TV threaten the 'Zionist enemy', the term "Arab enemy" or "Palestinian enemy" is taboo. Kenneth Levin in his The Oslo Syndrome does a superb job of documenting this sad state of affairs.
