Reader comment on item: In Mideast, Bet on a Strong Horse

Submitted by BA (United States), Feb 17, 2010 at 13:33

Dr. Pipes this article is spot on. Knowing the Arabs mentality and way of thinking one has to be strong to survive or to lead. This is not limited only to the political power but to all aspect of their lives. When you try to be a nice and politically correct person then you loss the respect and admiration of the Arab society. Kids were learned through their parents to be tough and fearless and to have no respect for other people's rights. The whole society, from the bottom up is warped. US lost some respect in the battle of Fallujah, Iraq because the US was trying to be nice and understanding of the Arabs' feelings. Huge mistake, US should've given an ultimatum then burnt the whole city down. This is the only language that is well understood and respected. In the Arab world if you show any slight weakness at all, it is over; you will be nothing but a doormat!
