Radical Islamists or Cultists?

Reader comment on item: Combating the Ideology of Radical Islam

Factoring in all of the common rhetoric from world renouned experts on Radical Islam, I cannot differentiate it from cult.

In the name of God? Radical Islamists have chosen to declare Jihad against the West without an apparent rationale - not God. From the bastardized interpretations of the Qu'ran, to the radical diatribes of a handful of Islamic clerics, a doctrine of hatred and murder replaces love, and has become its own religion (I use the term loosely). By misleading impressionable individuals who are seeking meaning in their own lives and bringing them to a fulminating, rabid animal based on deception and lies is a blasphemy. Is this our loving God teaches? Of course not.

Lets face it, Radical Islamists who seek to murder innocents, follow leaders, who themselves have questionable mental health, and seek to murder innocent women and children who do not share in their beliefs, is, quite frankly, nothing more than a group of cultists. I challenge anyone to deny that Osama bin- Laden, Sayyid Qutb, al-Banna, et. al., cannot be compared to the likes of Jim Jones or David Coresh. All have severely twisted the truth of the holy books, brainwashed generations of people with inflammatory dialog that they claim is the word of God. Since I am a Catholic, I would like to leave with the warning Jesus gave us: "Many false prophets will come in my name ... beware not to follow them."
