Daniel is explicit about the real, existential, and non-militarily-addressed threats to Israel

Reader comment on item: Accept Israel as the Jewish State?

Daniel is of course being ironic when he says "Perhaps because the PLO still intends to eliminate Israel as a Jewish state."

He mentions the two threats I fear for Israel, and see no way out of.

"Demography: Palestinians could overwhelm the Jewish population of Israel, a goal signaled by their demand for a "right of return" and by their so-called war of the womb.

"Politics: Arabs citizens of Israel increasingly reject the country's Jewish nature and demand that it become a bi-national state."

I don't think that the secular(ish) PLO (and certainly not Hamas) will ever agree to some codification of Israel as "Jewish" homeland, and I don't think it would matter even if they did for the two reasons that I quoted above.

Even if it was enshrined by international treaty that "Israel is recognized to be a Jewish State" it would be meaningless if Israel is 60% Arab and basically all of them want a secular or even Shariah state.

I don't know where to go with that that looks good for Israel's future -- even if all the Jews in the world went to Israel, there is a point somewhere late in the 21st century that the Palestinians would outnumber them with their greater birthrate, and at some point probably in the 22nd century the Palestinians in Israel proper would outnumber all the Jews on earth.

God could and may intervene for Israel -- I pray that He does -- but I never like making His unpredictable intervention the basis of my plans.
