Reader comment on item: Accept Israel as the Jewish State?

Submitted by housam jarrar (United States), Nov 28, 2007 at 23:58

while i truly believe the state of israel has the right to exist, i believe it also has the right to consider itself as it pleases...just to make sure i get the whole premise of this article, let me do the run down...judaism. unlike islam or christianity. is not a proselytizing religion .if your father is jewish and your mother is not therefore you are not considered one..therefore it is probably more accurate to look at it as more of a race of people rather than a mere religious identity..so if the requested recognition is based on a jewish identity, then how is that different than saying denmark is a white state...

besides, how on earth can you say with a staight face that a state that considers itself jewish is also on the other hand a state that provides ALL its citizens equal rights..i think the same argument would hold if someone would claim america is a christian nation which it is not ,it is a nation of christians. there is a big big difference. i do realize that all the other countries in the middle east are that way and they unfortunately do discriminate against people of other faiths, but if people want to claim that israel is any different, then they are going to have to really show how?
