If Islam did conquer Jerusalem in the 7th Century and Mooohamed lived in the 6th, clearly the "conquering" is classical imperialism. Islam and muslims grew out of a very localised and accepted geographic locality, namely the Saudi desert. Clearly according to accepted understanding of colonialism , the muslims under the little red book of the Koran and the glinting sword of moohamed are colonialists in the classical sense of the word. Cultures a plenty have vanished under the sword of Islam over the last 1400. I cant think of any greater impearialist enterprise other than France or Great Britain in the last 2000.
