Reader comment on item: War's New Face

Mr. Pipes:

First, congratulations on the Institute for Peace nomination. One begins to feel that this administration really means to confront the true enemy, as you have so often declared, militant Islam. Whether they will ever actually identify that enemy out loud is more in doubt, but I assume you will do so from your new podium.

By the way, the opposition was spreading lies about you from the first day. Some Arab woman on Today cited your nomination as an example of the Bush administration warring with Islam, saying that you oppose Islam and all Arabs. You probably know who it was. I expect more of the same in the Senate confirmation process.

Meanwhile, subject article is the first of yours in a very long time that didn't have me nodding my head in agreement. Even in this case, it's not so much that I disagree but there's a tone of hubris in it that worries me. I think we should quietly savor our victories and begin to think about the next battle, rather than trumpet our success.

Cordially,
