Bunker Bust 24 Iran Nuke sites, Lose Israel?Reader comment on item: Decision Time on Iran Submitted by TonyGuitar (Canada), Nov 2, 2006 at 21:45 Two years ago I thought a precision air strike on Iran*s Nuke plants would have adjusted Iran's clerics delusions of grandeur. Today, any such simplistic approach is out of the question. We procrastinated while Iran used oil wealth to buy Russian weaponry including submarines that can be positioned in the most lethal of areas. This is no longer the simple problem it may have been in 1983 when Reagan ordered a hit on Hezbollah for the bombing of 241 Marines in their Lebaonon barracks. Secretary Wineberger defeated that order in the poorest of poor judgement and our pulling of punches continued through the Carter and Clinton spells of appeasement. The rule should be to penalize any international atrocity at the time of that crime. Too bad that rule was so often ignored. It will take groups of well informed experts to begin to resolve this mess without Nuclear poisoning of vast areas of the Middle East. Nuke-Pakistan is now under stress with Nuke- India while building multi-Billion$ oil lines to Nuke-China and natural gas lines to Nuke-Iran. There can be no simplistic tossing of precision bunker busters or anything else much, under these Nuke proliferated conditions. = TG Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
