Ripples of the Cold WarReader comment on item: Decision Time on Iran Submitted by Rick House (United States), Nov 1, 2006 at 17:31 Russia is still living in the past. During the Cold War the Middle East was the stage where the ideologies of the East clashed with the West. Then, the USSR wanted to expand its influence and dominate the region. Its aim was two-fold, to control the world's economy through oil and by controlling of the most important trade route in the world, especially to Europe. Now, Russia wants to expand its influence and dominate the region. Its aim is two-fold, to control the world's economy through oil and by controlling of the most important trade route in the world, especially to Europe. You see, the Middle East is Europe's throat. If you dominate there, you control Europe -- and the USSR and Russia want to control Europe. Old dogs know only old tricks!
