Aid to Iran. Why?!

Given the recent arguments re Iran's nuclear program and their childish attitude re the cartoon controversy can anybody explain to me why we are sending them aid in the aftermath of last week's earthquakes? They've made it patently clear that they despise us so why not just leave them to get on with it themselves. As numerous Muslim commentators on this board have pointed out - they don't need us. So why not direct those funds to the poor and homeless in our own countries instead? It beggars belief!
