Reader comment on item: West Africa - Europe's New Border
in response to reader comment: Differences between Europe and the USA

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Mar 30, 2006 at 03:06

I hope this will be published for Sidda and Mark. It was interesting to find out about the Australian and American perspectives on illegal immigration and asylum.

Let me make some broad generalizations about the issue: in Europe, immigration = Islam; in the USA, immigration = Latin America; in Australia, immigration = Asia. Europe is unique. For example, the language-issue is not as relevant as in the USA. Aside from the French, who are very defensive about their own language, Europeans don't have a problem learning a second language. I speak 4 languages. And I have lived in different countries.

In Europe, the problem is that most immigrants are Muslims. That is what Euro-immigration is all about. There is a new Eurabia within Europe. In some parts of France, Belgium and Holland, you only see Islamic shops, Islamic bookshops, Islamic butchers.

Therefore, that is different from the Americans, who try to defend the use of English, and the Australians, who are surrounded by Asian nations. However, we all have something in common. For example, in all of these countries, politicians, bureaucrats, the most important newspapers, intellectuals, writers and powerful people in general, all support illegal immigration. It is powerful people who support open-borders vs common people who don't. The far-left is not alone in supporting this open-border policy.

The Financial Times is a pro free-market publication, and they support free-borders. But then, Le Monde is just the same. In 2001, the Australians rejected a boat of immigrants from the Middle East, and they were insulted by the international press. The powerful support illegal immigration and multi-culturalism. If you don't agree with them, they will use their power to humiliate you. That seems to be the same accross the West. The far-left, the big corporations, the press, politicians, law-enforcement officials and judges all support illegal immigration and multi-culturalism. Hard-working people try to rebel to this ideology, but they get humiliated and insulted by the powerful. If you don't agree with illegal immigration and multi-culturalism, then you are a "Nehanderthal racist", a monster and an ignorant person, as well as a failure and a loser. The fear of being labelled as a "racist", forces you to apply self-censorship. Dear Mark and Sidda, this is not about racial tolerance. It has never been. This is about power.
