No coexistence in sight

Reader comment on item: Something Rotten in Denmark?
in response to reader comment: Islam can coexist

Submitted by Joe (United States), Feb 10, 2006 at 15:06

I have read a lot about Islam, taken courses on it, and done some extensive theological studies. However, I find no reassuring base in Islamic writings. Sure there are nice passages and revelations, but there remain the exceptions to every peaceful writing. Exceptions are for every non-Muslim and non-mainstream. The point is, there is no solid message of peace or anything else. Because there are passages that allow killing, let alone fighting, Islam is wrong.

The idea of exceptions only exemplifies the idea that Islam is only peaceful within Islam, and apparently not even that is true. Islam does not coexist, but it struggles for existence. The jihad is embodied not only in the struggle for religious defense, but for religious survival and conversion.

This is why in every culture there is no enlightened assimilation.
