Dear Dr Pipes,

I must begin this letter by saluting Mr Khizr Khan who is the father of late Capt Humayun Khan of US Army who sacrificed his life fighting for the United States in Iraq. Mr Khizr Khan deserves all our respect because he gave his son to our nation and his sacrifice dwarfs any sacrifice that any one of us can ever dream of making. The pain on his face when he addressed the DNC was visible and palpable and Capt Khan, indeed, was the best of America.

I salute MR Khan again but I also would like to say that he should not have used the US constitution in his speech. We all know what the US constitution says and recommends. Our problem is that in the war among Islamic and non-Islamic nations constitutions are pitted against religious scriptures.
In this global village --that is becoming smaller every day-- we are less interested in what the US constitution says. We are more interested in what the Saudi, Pakistani, Iranian, Turkish, Indonesian, Turkish, Afghanistani, Jordanian, Palestinian, Moroccan, Somalian (etc) constitutions say. We also are very interested in hearing what the Kashmiri/Palestinian constitutions would say if Kashmir or Palestine ever become a fully independent nations. It is these latter constitutions that need to be brandished from every lectern in the world until they are correctly rewritten.

When Fareed Zakaria asks 'what kind of America do we want to return to' and when Mr Khizr Khan shows the US constitution to his audience, many of us cannot resist the feeling that these fine gentlemen are rebuking the best among nations while turning a Nelson's eye toward the nations that deserve rebuke. This is like when parents rebuke A+ child in the family on missing a homework while all other children are doing gangs.
