You summarized the twists and turns of Syria over the past 10 years and the sad and sorry state into which the current ruling clique (the Alaouite minority ruling a majority of Sunnis - a case similar to what was happening in Irak) has brought this potentially rich country, first under the father's rule and then under Bashir. The days are long long gone when Damascus was a city of culture and economic wealth.
