Let's hope that the silver lining in the dark cloud of Hariri's assassination is the eventual liberation of Lebanon. I have my doubts though, given the recent history of Lebanon. It was the model of power-sharing in the Middle East until the PLO took up residence and assisted in starting their civil war. Today it is the home of Hezbollah, whose leader recently extolled martyrdom for the sake of Allah as the most honorable death. Would such a group ever permit power-sharing by non-Muslims or allow itself to be led by non-Muslims? Syrian withdrawal by itself will not make Lebanon "free". Lebanon is a damaged society and we have no way of knowing when or if it can regain its former vitality. Seeing is believing.
