A charming Moroccan man... Or?

Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men

Submitted by Sally (Australia), Feb 15, 2013 at 06:50

I have been reading lots of these posts on Moroccan men and just felt i had to write my story.

I recently went to morocco with my partner, we had been having some troubles in our relationship and when I met our moroccan driver (a single, attractive 35yo guy) i felt an immediate attraction. After leaving, we corresponded through emails and things got intense very fast. Now I know that what I was doing was very wrong... And in a way I was probably using him as he was using me.

Anyway we had months of emails, skyping and texting. He was incredibly romantic and poetic, he told me he loved me within weeks and had said i was 'made to be his wife'. At this stage I had told him that I would never leave my partner but I just couldn't seem to give this guy up! He begged me to go back to morocco, to 'get to know each other' and let destiny decide... A few things started to feel wrong, he kept changing email addresses and when I searched for him on Skype there was another account with a different address and age... Hmm. Also whenever we skyped it quickly became all about me taking off my clothes rather than just talking. So. I did book flights to morocco, naively thinking these things were all just cultural and that he did love me.

Then I started reading these posts and things became clear. I texted him telling him i wasn't coming, expecting him to write back with pleading texts begging me to come. But I heard nothing back, nothing at all. After him being so incredibly in love with me and wanting to spend the rest of his life with me this was the clearest proof i could get that it was all just nothing, whether it was a scam or he was trying to use me for sex I don't know. Obviously I am to blame too for carrying things on but I think this was a big lesson learned and one i thought should be shared in case other women find themselves in a similar situation. :)
