That is why Muslims (and the reader Fatou) need education

Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: Explain to concerned reader

Dear Dr Pipes, in the above letter, your (probably a Muslim) reader Fatou did not deny that Muslim women consider themselves superior. That is a problem. But there is a bigger problem. Fatou does not even know that just 'avoiding touching a strange man' will not make a woman superior or even good. She will need to do good karmas toward all living beings (not merely Muslims), raise good non-violent children, be interested in not just rituals but in true spirituality, show kindness toward all, and demand less and give more.

I humbly say that if these are the goals, reading Quran is not enough. Quran is extremely sectarian. It does not teach universal good. It teaches good only toward Muslims (and often times not even that).

So, Fatou and her brothers and sisters need broad-based education as is given to kids by most parents in non-Islamic societies.

As always, offering blunt but polite criticism of Islam.
