More religion not the answer

Reader comment on item: Militant Islam Is Put In Class With Communism, Fascism

Submitted by Brian F. (Canada), Jan 23, 2005 at 11:06

IBD: Are the political efforts of these Muslim groups similar to, say, Christian conservatives?

Pipes: There is no similarity whatsoever. They are unrelated phenomena. The Christian groups essentially want to practice their religion their way. The militant Islamic groups want to impose their views on everyone else.

Is American conservative Christianity harmless and unimposing? How tragically naive. They work in essentially the same ways, and historically Christians have been every bit as brutal.

I disagree with those who claim that strong Christianity is the answer to the rise of Islam. The world needs less religion and more spirituality.
