When I first read your post I saw this as a huge red flag and you should heed it as a warning that all is not as it should be. Jealousy is part of the culture - after all that is women are required to cover themselves so as not to invite the attentions of other man. Even though you have complied with his request to wear the hijab (I assume that you have converted to Islam or this request would seem unreasonable to the point of being controlling which is also another Arab male trait).
