The Arabs in Palestine

Reader comment on item: Arafat's Last Threat to Israel?

Submitted by Arlinda DeAngelis (United States), Nov 9, 2004 at 17:15

I agree completely with Dr. Pipes' analysis and commentary with one caveat.

Considering the endless sums of money connected with the head of the PLO, it would seem to me that anyone achieving such a position would not want to end the terrorist war on Israel. It would be in his economic interest to pursue the terrorism.

There should be no separate state of Palestine from which terrorism has a home base and the mere fact that we give credence to a people whose identity only exists to annihilate Israel is absolutely untenable. In 1971 Arafat said that there are no such people as the Palestinians. When we achieve statehood we will annex ourselve to Jordan and annihilate Israel. It may have been the only moment of honesty in Arafat's otherwise dispicable life. To believe that they would denounce terrorism, their only raison d'etre, would to expect that "to be or not to be" is one and same condition.

There should never be a state for a people who exist only to annihilate another people ... their neighbors. That is no reason for legitimizing anything.
