Reader comment on item: Arafat's Last Threat to Israel?

Submitted by Ilona Melstrads (United States), Nov 10, 2004 at 21:03

If you are right and Bush is in a box because of his statements or policies, the period of Palestinian anarchy and the implied U.S. pressure against Israel, if "inevitable," can be turned somewhat to the advantage of peace. This would be through the infiltration of the various Palestinian organizations and the creation of leaders. One may always hope that among the Arabs, someone, given enough resources, may rise to the occasion.

My father, who had to flee both the Nazis and the Soviet Communists, had no explanation for Gorbachev except the humorous one that Gorbachev might have been a CIA agent!

The current period in the Middle East resembles the time of Elizabeth I, and the dreadfully precarious position of Protestants throughout Europe against the most tremendous Catholic persecutions and armies. The country with the best spy network and basically in the Protestant camp, England, although frequently backsliding, particularly for financial reasons, won the first major initial battle.
