Update on the Nestlé issue

Reader comment on item: Oklahomans Say No to Sharia

Submitted by Yoven (United States), Nov 30, 2010 at 11:40

Dear Liz,

Does that mean that all Nestlé products have to be certified by the Muslim council before it goes on sale? That is a lot of money spend on the Muslim council considering the vast line of product that Nestlé carries. It doesn't explain why coffee should be approved by a religious institution, maybe if it wasn't, you could pass on the saving to the consumers. By the way, Coffee is a vegetarian product; I did not see any "SUDDHA" logo.

Take care,

Yoven

Dear Mr

Thank you for your query about the Halaal sign on Nescafé Ricoffy.

Nestlé products are not prayed over. The Halaal logo on Nestlé packaging lets our Muslim consumers know which products conform to their dietary requirements. These products have been certified by the Muslim Council.

In South Africa, we make it easier for all our consumers by printing as much information as possible on our packaging. Vegetarian products carry the SUDDHA logo, and Kosher products carry a Kosher sign.

We appreciate your taking the time to contact us. We are pleased that you are able to source Ricoffy in Canada!

Kind regards
