Reader comment on item: [Election Monitors:] The Next Assault on American Sovereignty

Submitted by Kevin Mc. (United States), Aug 17, 2004 at 01:51

This is the scariest thing I've heard about our country, ever! The idea that we will allow international, unelected, non-American bureaucrats to "monitor" an American national election leaves me (almost) utterly speechless. The only thing more distressing than this is that there seems to be almost no one talking about this in our national media. Missing children (something that, sadly, occurs on a regular basis) have gotten ten times the coverage that this decision is getting. This is the kind of thing that warrants the removal of the 13 politicians that wrote the letter requesting the monitors in the first place. If those 13 folks don't think that America, the envy of the world, can hold fair and democratic elections, then they have no business serving in elected leadership positions. Their position, after all, dictates that they cannot be sure THEY belong in office (what if THEIR elections were not fair?).

I hope Pipes and others will make this a front-and-center issue of their commentary every time they get time on a news program or write an article, bringing it up out of nowhere if needed, so it can be known and discussed. This is, flat out, America handing over it's sovereignty to the U.N. We all need to write our congressmen and let them know we are against this if we hope to live in a free America 50 years from now!
