Election monitoring in the United States
Reader comment on item: [Election Monitors:] The Next Assault on American Sovereignty

Submitted by Steven Mandel (United States), Aug 23, 2004 at 20:19

I usually agree with you, but not this time. Having "outsiders" monitor our elections is just as reasonable and appropiate as having "outsiders" monitoring Haiti's.

The monitors are not "above" anyone. They are additional guarantors of the transparency of the election process. They bring another perspective to it. We relinquish no sovernity, but rather affirm our committment to openness and our confidance in the fairness of the process.
Sincerely, Steven Mandel MD
