undecided on marriage

HI i have a similar story to the lady in America. I'm a 31 yr english girl frm nr Liverpool. I met an egyptian man whilst working in Cyprus in 2006. He is a butcher and asked me to marry him after 2wks together. I didn't marry him in 2007 as i was not ready so he married a cyprus girl who he is now divorcing and is waiting for divorce papers from immigration. I would love to go over and marry him in Cyprus this year but i don't know wether to believe he is christian because i am sure he mentioned muslim to me in Cyprus. to be honest both words where mentioned. Should i believe him?
