Here they are! You have met them. You have had intelligent conversations with them. They grew up in intellectual "milieux" ,have read and seen everything. They have studied and reached high grades in their specializations. They speak perfect arabic, or/ and farsi, and some european languages.
Since their childhood, they have been travelling with their parents all around the most western and beautiful countries. In their teen ages, they have danced, dressed, not only their hair, like young westeners did. In their bedrooms, the walls were decorated with the faces of western movie stars and musicians,etc...All that has taken them to the best position to realise that human beings, maybe, are only animals, among other God's or Evolution creations.
So, they cannot avoid, from time to time, the cruel thought of having been trapped. Yes, Islam, I am saying it without hatred nor contempt, is a trap. This is not a consideration over its values, but the mere fact that once you have entered it, by birth, or fashionable choice, you will never be allowed to get out of it , even temporarily, a sort of "aller voir ailleurs" (seeing if the neighbour's grass is greener), reduces it into the status of the worst cults. And that, the intelligent and "cultivé" muslim is well equipped to detect it very early. The result? Anger! As a journalist,I will never stop repeating to those dear colleagues who love to talk about the political consciousness of the so called "rue arabe" (arab opinion) and always try to find high justifications in their protests, that muslims are mostly angry against themselves.
The thousands of them that we periodically see shouting slogans on the streets worldwile, do not care about the real political aspects of the topics they are marching for. Emotion, fear of being emarginated, hatred, and... that trap they are in, make them so violent. Animals do not like to be trapped. The most intelligent of them try to free their wounded legs out of the hunters engines. The lack of success drives them mad, and I am almost sure that, before dying, some hares or foxes blame themselves for having not been cautious enough! Back to the human species. If, growing up, you feel trapped, thus more and more angry, what do you do?
For instance, you start terrorizing your sisters, as educated as you are, and denying them the right to go on the streets with too short skirts, make-up, and so on.You envy those who can commit apostasy without risking their lives. If you are very clever, you will try to "trap" non muslim girls, by acting as what the italian call a "muslim light" (cf. coca-cola) If she falls in love with you, you marry her, even without loving her. After the birth of your first child, you become a dictator.
The european court rooms are full of the consequences of such comedies. Even if you do not end up founding a movement "for a real Islam", you are at risk to join a similar one, in order to surf on the waves of the last war of Gaza, Durban I and, in less than a week, number II. A real wonder will fall upon Islam the day one highly respected mollah, or Mufti, or teacher of the most famous university of Cairo will dare to proscribe the prohibition of apostasy in Islam. On that day, Taslima Nasreen, Ayan Hirsi, Salman Rushdie, and thousands of less famous "traitors" will fire their bodyguards, come out of their hideouts, put their telephone numbers back into the public repertoires! That will be a great step! Hurrah!
