Q33:56Reader comment on item: Islam in American Textbooks Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Apr 15, 2009 at 07:55 Hi Plato I already posted one blog about your request (with references from Lisan al-Arab dictionary and from Father Zakaria Botros' "Hewar al-haq" ) Here is the aya ina Allah wa malaa'ikatah yusaluuna 3ala al-nabi However, here is a linear translation (tarjamat al-lafz/kilma) 1. Ina (usually this word is not translated as it is an intensifying particle introducing a nominal clause but I very well could use here the word Truly) 2. Allah means Allah and if you believe the arabs the word means The God and not God 3. wa malaa'ikatah means and his angels 4. yusaluuna means they pray (this is the plural for yusali or he prays and yusali in Lisan al-Arab means du3a' ruku3 wa sujuud or invocation, bending and prostration which are the components of islamic praying) 5. 3ala means upon 6. al-nabi means the prophet Now tarjamat al-ma3na or translation of the meaning is Truly Allah and his angels pray upon the prophet Notice that muslims use the term sali 3ala allah which means pray to allah Again the credit must go to Father Zakaria Botros for pointing out the obvious I hope I helped Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
