Nothing in the article about Iran
Reader comment on item: Appease Iran?

Submitted by michael (United States), Oct 23, 2008 at 16:57

I've read this article over pretty closely, and nowhere is there any linking of Iran with any kind of actual threat to its neighbors in the Middle East. So what's to appease? On the other hand, Israel, the US, and neighbors Russia and Pakistan are all nuclear powers. Wouldn't it be prudent of Iran to think about having some nuclear capability? Or should they just leave themselves defenseless? If Iran enjoys a measure of influence among Iraqi Shiites now, it's only because the US toppled Saddam and brought those parties into power who were exiled in Iran. So if you want to blame someone for Iran's influence there it would be those who counseled going to war against Iraq. Which, parenthetically, was another state that posed no danger to anyone but its own people.
