Hello Taj, You wrote:

>>Indeed the world belongs to God - after all, He made it, it's His - however the Prophet's statement as you cited should be understood in light of the statement he made, recorded in Bukhari, Book 7, #331:

The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying...

Thus the world is not understood by Muslims as belonging to them to run amok and kill and subjugate everyone - it is for them to be able to worship - this in contrast to prior views that worship such as ritual praying could only take place in a sanctified place, like a mosque or church or synagogue...<<

Does the hadith trump the Koran? Here are some verses that tells Muslims to run amok and kill and subjugate infidels:

YUSUFALI: It is He Who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the Religion of Truth, that he may proclaim it over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it). [Pikthal translates it proclaim as conquer]

9:29 is well known for calling for the subjugation of the kafirs. and 9:111 gives musims an unbreakbale contract to trade their lives in exchange for paradise for killing infidels.

The Bukhari you have quoted has this to report:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa:

Allah's Apostle said, "Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords

One of the accusations Muslims have about quoting Islamic scriptures is that they are out of context or cherry picked. The hadith you quoted has tells us some other interseting things about the prophet which you blotted out:

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

The Prophet said, "I have been given five things which were not given to any one else before me.

1. Allah made me victorious by awe, (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey.

2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum, therefore anyone of my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.

3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me.

4. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection).

5. Every Prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to all mankind.

Regards

Plato
