Reader comment on item: Study the Koran?

Submitted by Tom Andrews (Italy), Jan 26, 2004 at 13:34

Many of the followers of militant Islam claim to be doing nothing more than following its founders example. After a good accounting of Muhammed's life, do we not see that example being followed in the various militant groups that you mentioned?
I believe that a "holy book" is best interpreted through the example of its founder.
The militant style cruisades of the middle age Christians are a perfect example of what a Christian was not supposed to do. If this is so, then is not the militant style of Islam what a Muslim is not supposed to do?
I am a conservative Christian who believes in the example of Christ. We find all we need in the pages of the Bible, in its context, to be complete in instruction with many types of examples, including examples of what not to do.
My understanding and reading about Islam's founder is contrary to what most people would like us to believe. We found the man to be quite violent and he seemed to have many convenient revelations as well. Maybe you have some good recommendations for reading that I have not been privy to? Tom
