If you say "for there is nothing in Islam that necessarily contradicts democracy", you are wrong because if you are a Moslem and you want to change your religion, you will die per the koran. If you are not a Moslem in a Moslem country, you are a second class citizen or have no rights against a Moslem in a court of law per the koran.
If you are a woman in a Moslem country you have 1/2 the right of a man per the koran.
You have to listen to the fatwa of the clergy people per the koran. The koran is the rule in the Moslem countries. Tell me please how Islam is not againist democracy.
If you say as a hope "The moslems required a coming to terms with the West, an acceptance that, whether it be in the realm of economics, technology, or political structures" this will never happen because they look at America as a country of unbelievers and they want by all means to destroy the good things America has.
