Fascinating reading on how to overcome fear of violent death!Reader comment on item: Which Has More Islamist Terrorism, Europe or America? Submitted by Tati Chawla (India), Jul 8, 2008 at 23:17 Joe, I followed your lead in reading Leor Halevi's article in IHT. It's fascinating to see how whoever the concocter of this belief is i.e. the departed spirit returning to the buried dead body and awaiting resurrection, and undergoing torture if having been a sinner in life - its a HUGE motivator not to 'sin'. Its even more frightening than a fatal disease (since its for eternity or till such time judgement day arrives). But the masterstroke of the genius concocter (Muhammad?) is to that 'there is a way out' - if you somehow 'martyr' yourself you will live a life of opulence (houris, wine and luxury) as you make the wait for judgement. So any poor soul who is indoctrinated with this belief - people can be made to believe anything - will bend over backwards if his society designates any action e.g. suicide bombing non-muslims, as befitting a 'shahid' or martyr. No wonder gullible fools are queuing up to save themselves from this fate worse than death viz. torture in the grave. Must hand it to the guy - medieval or whatever, he was a master motivator Guess its really important for the saner world to know who they are against Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
