Mr. Pipes states:
"militant Islam lacks the backing of a powerful state such as Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia and therefore lacks a conventional military force"
What I wonder what is Islamic republic of Iran in that case? 25 years ago the US military bases in Iran where turned over to PLO as training grounds. The barracks of the Imperial guards right next to my home became a training ground for those that would later take the US embassy, and export their ideology into Lebanon and attempt to do so in Iraq as well.
He further states:
"Militant Islam's attacks on the United States began in November 1979 "
It all actually started when Mohammad (peace be upon him) started killing his enemies and taking their wives as loot, but in any case, let's stick with our "wilful denial of reality":
Would not be better to imply a start date that directly involves innocent third world nationals (almost exclusively women and children)? Is a strike against America's admirers not as worth a mention because the victims do not posses a US citizenship? My thought of a start date to this symphony of destructiveness is not when Khomeini killed his first prime minister or US army officer, but an almost forgotten August 1978 when a cinema, full of civilians, was locked up during a midday matinee and burnt because the audience was watching decadent American films? The act was then blamed on the US proxy in the area, the Shah of Iran.
