No "hate inspiring texts" - good job, OliverReader comment on item: On Islam and Islamism Submitted by jennifer solis (United States), Apr 4, 2008 at 20:48 Well done. With regards to the Catholic Church, I'm with you, Pope John Paul II conveniently skipped over the Catholic Church's responsibilty concerning not just the Spanish Inquisition (Protestans also were burned at the stake), but also something which would have made me livid - the restriction of the Bible itself. "As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the troubled soul from Purgatory springs" By 500 A.D. the Bible had been translated into over 500 languages. Just one century later, by 600 A.D., it had been restricted to only one language - the Latin Vulgate - by the Roman Catholic Church. Since few other than the priests could read Latin, this gave great power to the church to deceive the masses. Those in possesion of non-Latin scriptures would be executed. The result? 1000 years of the Dark and Middle Ages. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
