Reader comment on item: A Strongman for Iraq?

Submitted by R Barger (United States), Apr 30, 2003 at 13:15

Unlike other liberated societies, Iraq's people can still see in their past the images of a proud and accomplished civilization. It may be that a new strongman (benevolent dictator) would be temporarily useful. The target balance point will be moving so fast that the essence of the situation will not be true long enough to measure it. Wishful thinking may not be a reliable model, but chaos without it would certainly be worse. Hang onto your hats, sport fans. In this situation, as in most other human endeavors, the rules are not written and luck has reserved most of the good seats.
