Jews expelled from Arab Countries

Reader comment on item: How Central Is Muslim Anti-Semitism?

Submitted by Joseph Abdel Wahed (United States), Feb 15, 2003 at 20:07

Dear Dr. Pipes,
There is a myth floating around in intellectual and less intellectual circles, that Jews lived happily ever after under Arab/Islamic rule. In one word: bunk!

All one needs to do is to read the history of the Jews in the Arab/Islamic world. We were treated with contempt during much of the last 14 centuries, until we were forced to flee. In 1945, nearly one million Jews lived in nine Arab countries. Now, there are less than 8,000 there. Indeed, the level of anti Semitism in Arab countries is now 100-fold worse than when Jews lived there.
This tells it all.
