They might regret their choice

Reader comment on item: Don't deal with terrorists

I will admit in advance that I am no expert on Israeli/Palestinian politics. However, I am wondering whether, in the long run, the people who elected Hamas might come to regret it. From what I understand, the people of Afghanistan originally welcomed the Taliban because they thought they would bring order and stability to the region. After a few years of draconian rule by the Taliban, most of the people couldn't wait to see them go. Indeed, recent polls indicate that the vast majority of Afghanis are much happier with their current situation than they were under the Taliban and do not want the Taliban back in power.

Maybe when the Palestinians get a real taste of what they have brought upon themselves, they will have a change of heart. Of course, then it might be too late because Hamas might not want to give up their power. Also as an aside, I'm wondering how the election of Hamas will affect Israeli politics. Will the people go further to the right in response?
