Reader comment on item: [After Sharon:] Israeli Politics Will Revert to Its Past
in response to reader comment: and perhaps even some forward movement toward a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian war.

At some point the adulation Sharon was showered with went to his head. Literally. He figured himself so great, invincible, worldly, master of his destiny, God's annointed, that immortality was inevitable. He disregarded all discretion, disregarded mother nature, and scoffed at 1300 years of history.

1300 years of history indicate a basic tenet. Islam does not respect borders. All borders with Islam are bloody. The very notion of putting up a border, be it on the last inch of sand licked by the mediterranean, is the sure-fire guarantee for Jihad. Nor do the wide oceans grant one a reprieve from Islamic ire. Or french croissants.

Sharon actually made plans to bring this impossibility about, and scoffed at mother nature when she said, hey you, I am giving you a warning, a tiny little stroke. Sit down, relax, call your favorite hound, kindle the fireplace and read a good book.

So now his brain is a mess. The Sharon we know, love hate or eschew is gone. In his place a hulk. a momentary vacuum when slightly confused Jews dither, shall we persist in his path, which was never elucidated?

Israel is not at a cross roads. The Arabs will soon determine which way it goes. The next salvo of rockets is already warming up, and the Shahids are strapping on their noble vests on their noble chests. Wine anyone?

If anyone is looking for a good book, here is a recommendation. Dore Gold, Hatred's Kingdom.
