The Frightening Truth

Reader comment on item: The War on Campus

Submitted by Gary Cantor (Japan), Sep 18, 2002 at 04:36

Daniel Pipes' commentary is right on target. Unfortunately, it seems as if there are times when principles of free speech are no match for violence and threats. The fact that Netanyahu was unable to speak at Concordia University is rather frightening. It shows that basic freedoms in democratic societies cannot be taken for granted, and similarly illustrates that it is possible for thugs to control the flow of information in the midst of important policy debates.
